What’s ABS material?

ABS is an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene terpolymer, which is an amorphous polymer and has many varieties. The ABS material has good thermal stability and medium melt viscosity.

ABS molded products have high surface hardness, stable dimensional structure, toughness and chemical resistance, and are easy to shape and process.

The water content of the ABS resin for injection molding is not allowed to exceed 0.2%. Generally, the resin should be dried before injection molding, and can be treated by hopper dryer at a temperature of 80 to 85 ° C for 2 to 4 hours.

Injection Parameter for ABS product

  1. plasticizing temperature
The plasticizing temperature range of ABS resin is 180 to 280 °C. Depending on the type of raw materials used in the product, it should be properly adjusted for specific applications. For example, if a heat-resistant resin is used, the temperature should be higher; when a general-purpose resin is used, the temperature should be lower. When injection molding ABS material, the temperature control range of the barrel application is 180-230 °C. The nozzle is usually used at a temperature of 19O to 220’C. When a high flow type resin is used, the nozzle control temperature is 170 to 180 °C.
  2. injection pressure of injection moulding machine
The injection pressure of the ABS resin melt is in the range of 60 to 150 MPa. When the wall thickness of the injection molded product is large and the gate size is large, the injection pressure of injection moulding machine can be 70-110 MPa; when the wall thickness of the injection molded product is small, the melt flow is long, or the heat-resistant resin is used, the injection pressure can be used. 12O ~ 150MPa.
The holding pressure of injection moulding machine is generally used in an amount of 60 to 70 MPa in order to make the product have a small internal stress.
The melt injection speed is usually injected at medium and low speeds.
  3.  mold temperature
The temperature of the ABS coal body forming mold is controlled within the range of 40 to 80 °C. When using a higher mold temperature, the melt filling quality is good, the internal stress of the product is small, and the appearance quality is good. However, an excessively high mold temperature tends to increase the shrinkage of the product, and it is easily deformed after demolding, and at the same time, the production cycle of the product is prolonged. Generally, the molding die temperature for ABS injection molded products is often controlled between 40 and 60 °C.
